The Mason Dixon Paso
Fino Horse Association booth at the Maryland Horse World Expo, January 15—18, 2009, was positioned right between two of the major
headliners of the expo, Craig Cameron and Tommie Turvey, hence there
were quite a few visitors.

There seemed to be more people who knew about the Paso Fino horse.
There weren’t so many who came up and said “Paso what?” One
gentleman had seen the Paso Finos in the Rose Bowl Parade and wanted
to know more about these beautiful horses. Mason Dixon member, Jim
Laird, answered all his questions about the training, stamina, and
personality of the Paso Fino horse.
Karen Basehore, Diane
Dutt, Lisa Gorsuch, and Kathy Dell participated in the Parade of
Breeds that spotlighted the Paso Fino. They demonstrated the various
gaits and showed the versatility of the Paso Fino horse. They did a
great job. Their horses were well behaved and tolerated the close
proximity of the crowds.

Jennie Jackson, a gaited-horse clinician, explained about the
differences in some of the gaited horses. Lisa Gorsuch rode her
Paso Fino, Casanova, around the ring with Tennessee Walkers and Rocky
Mountain horses as Ms. Jackson explained the difference between a
lateral and a diagonal gait. Note the colored leg wraps on Lisa’s
horse. Ms Jackson used these to get the audience to watch the sequence
of the footfalls. Lisa showed how easily her horse executed the
four-beat lateral gait as well as showing that paso fino horses can
canter with the best of them.

On January 17th four Paso Fino horses and
riders showed off the breed during the Parade of Breeds at the PA Farm
Show at Harrisburg PA. Jessica Brosko on Caballos Top Gun (
Performance Stallion ) Robbie Haupert Keill on Sebastian del Prado
( Pleasure Gelding ) Nick Burgos on Sobearno del Oregano ( Fino
Gelding ) and Dorothy Snedden on Fugativa le Estrella (
Pleasure mare) Our demo went very smoothly, and we were pleased to
have such quality horses representing our breed.
We were the first breed to enter the ring, with the longest demo time
as well. After all the breeds had their turn in the ring, we all
re-entered to do a true Parade of Breeds, with the Pasos leading the
way. Thanks to all who helped passing out Mason Dixon directories and
PFHW magazines; talking to the many people who had questions about the
breed; helping with the preparation of the horses and taking pictures.
